Yes, this car is older (over 12 years in age) and many of the regular maintenance is due (250,000 km) and yes, there is minor damage (from previous owner) on the front. I would have kept this car and was about to sell my euorvan, truthfully. However, I can only keep one. Truly, it is heart-breaking to sell this car, but I figure, I would rather have someone enjoy this vehicle because putting her into storage would destroy her over time.
I have put this WRX through its paces. In my time in the Ottawa area, there are some nice turns around the area and this car handles whatever you throw at it like a charm - dry, wet, slippery, snowing, you name it. This car likes to be driven. This car drives the way you expect cars are supposed to perform. And when I say, "I've put it through its paces", I really mean it. Do you love to shift? 1-2-3-4-5? Yup, she can take it. My question is, can you? Trust me. You should have a strong heart when you drive her. 2 years later? The thrill is still there for me. (Please note: know your car; know its limits. know your limits. drive safely.)
I have (amateur) detailed this car, spending close to 6 hours by hand, cleaning the door jams etc. Yes, there is wear and tear on the carpeting but the body is in solid shape. I can detect little to no rust in and around the door jams. This is the same, more or less, on the outside body as well. During my ownership of the last 2 years, I have applied the winter undercoating every year, and I believe the previous owner did the same; he owned it for about 5 years.
If I kept this car, I would have invested another $5k to $6k. An engine rebuild is probably due (that is the reality of any old car you are looking at), and a dealer gave me an estimate of $1k to fix the front bumper. Keeping up with the upgrades will yield a world class rally car that will last you for another 10 years, easily.
The top is a matte finish (I am not sure about the correct terminology) which makes for low maintenance. It was installed by a previous owner. This is the first time I've owned a car with this feature and I will get this installed on my next car as well. It is an awesome feature.
The rear passenger and hatchback windows are tinted which provides not only privacy but also keeps the car color during those hot summer days. This is also the first time that I've owned a car with tinted windows; I will get the same done for my next car.
If you have never owned a WRX (or STI), then be sure to watch for other WRX (or STI) drivers on the road because most will give you the thumbs up or nod or wave, as you do the same. I never had this experience with the (regular) Imprezza; this seems unique to WRX (and STI) owners. Few if any other production cars are adorned with the distinctive hood scoop for the inter-cooler; it will be easy for you to pick out other like cars, such as this. As an aside, I will get compliments from other drivers on the road or in the parking lot. The combination of the hood scoop, hatchback and its distinctive body moulding makes this car stand out in the crowd.
Personally, I like the hatchback for its stylish look; most Imprezzas are of the Sedan variety. In addition, Subaru changed its body mould around 2014, to a much more conservative look. Personally, I prefer this style because of the clean lines (it is less "boxy" looking, IMHO).
