Available for auction for the first time by The HKTG Garage is this rare piece of Australian automotive history. Saved from the middle of nowhere in country SA nearly four years ago. This is an opportunity to secure a rare Holden with ties to one of Australia's greatest motor racing personalities.
After some investigative work I have found that this Utility was ordered new by Bob Jane for his Brunswick T-Mart Store in Melbourne. I have the provenance to prove it in a copy of the vehicles first Victorian registration. I have also collected images over time. The first image was taken in 1971 when the car was new.
The vehicle is a February 1971, Dandenong built HG Kingswood 253 V8 Auto Utility. One of less than 650 HG80480 models produced which makes it quite rare now some 50 years later. Making it rarer again is that it is a special Colour Trim Variation Order (C/TV) in Sebring Orange which was a colour exclusive to HT GTS and LC GTR. To make it even rarer again, is that Bob Jane ordered this vehicle new as part of his Victorian based T-Mart fleet of four or five similar utes. Interior colour is 18E Sandalwood
This vehicle requires full restoration. It left the factory as a V8 column shift Trimatic but over the years of changed ownerships it is showing signs of having a hard life. Nearly everything original to the car was gone or had been changed and was a six cylinder floor shift manual car with one Commodore seat in it when I purchased it. The original ID tags are still attached and also the original date coded big nut master cylinder and booster. The rare Kingswood ute gutter moulds were still attached too. All panels and the body are still the original Orange under the white except the bonnet which has been replaced at some stage.
The front half of the car is good and solid and the subframes appear to be almost rust free and straight. The rear of the cab and the rear floor would require work or replacement. It's rusty but It's repairable. It's not beyond repair.
Since purchasing the vehicle I have had it stored inside and in that time I've sourced many parts for it. Below is a list of some of the parts but is by no means exhaustive.
Correct bench seatCorrect HG column shift V8 Trimatic gearbox with crossmember and linkagesCorrect Trimatic steering column, steering wheel and horn pad.All badges in exceptional original condition including 253 emblem, flag badge, rare correct Kingswood pillar badges, Trimatic badge, bonnet and tailgate badgesGood grille with new centre emblemAll stainless mouldings for tailgate, sill, rear quarters, pillar and doors.New old stock Sandalwood front carpetNew old stock correct date coded carburettorNew old stock tail light lensesNew reproduction steel spare wheel door.Correct part numbered V8 auto radiator [hidden information]Correct part numbered V8 Commercial front coil springs [hidden information]Auto pedal assemblyRechromed heater faciaRestored column auto dashComplete set of new decals including reproduction registration labelCorrect 253 air cleaner assembly, valve covers, fan, alternator brackets and timing cover.I have an incomplete HG 253 engine to go with the car. Also a complete correct HG disc brake front end assembly will be supplied as it currently sits on an HK front end.
Serious enquiries only please so have a good think about it before you bid/buy. I repeat, it requires full restoration. The homework has been done and the hard to get bits have been sourced. It has been saved from the scrappers. I don't have room for it in my personal collection of vehicles so it's time to let it go although I would love to see it faithfully restored. The HKTG Garage is available to faithfully restore the vehicle should the winning bidder be looking for somewhere to have it restored. Viewing is welcome strictly by appointment only. More photos can be emailed.
Reserve is reasonably set considering the exclusivity of the car. I won't be disclosing the reserve so please don't ask. Trolls, timewasters and scoffers will be ignored so don't waste your time.
