Hello and welcome to the auction for my 2003 Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI Avantgarde Estate Auto finished in metallic silver with grey leather interior. Selling reluctantly due to ULEZ charges expansion zone coming close to my area very soon, and will upgrade to a smaller petrol car. These cars are slowly becoming modern classics as they are not as common to find as the later w211 models, especially in a driving state and with an MOT.
Next MOT due in August 2020.
The GOODEngine is quiet, no oil leaks, gearbox goes through all the gears, solid suspension. No noises or rattles. Feels like its done no more than 50k. Solid tyresHas just been serviced: Oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filterVery solid consumption of 40-45mpg. Even in the city I rarely get less than 40mpg. All the electrics are working fine and in order. Very clean interior (smoke free and pet free car), everything feels solid and well put together. New disks, new break pads, new belts (less than 2k miles ago). Pioneer radio/CD-player with Bluetooth and phone connectivity as well as AUX input.
The BADThe engine works very smoothly like the car has 50k miles and not 150k, however upon kick down you can hear the turbo whistling and basically it does not produce the power that a 190 HP car should be producing. This will need fixing if you want this car to run perfectly for you. You can either get the turbo refurbished for roughly 200 pounds or you can just buy a good second hand one for under 100 pounds on ebay, or dismantlers. If you are handy, this is a cheap repair these days with second hand parts so readilly available online. I'm unfortunatley not handy enough to fix this and dont want to spend any more money on this car hence am passing on the torch. This repair is captured and reflected in the starting auction price. Glow plugs will need replacing. Isnt imminent as the car starts just fine but the glow plug light stays on throughout as it does not reach the right temperature. The bonnet cable has rusted so its quite a nuisance to open the bonnet. Was told it’s a common issue with the W210 series. With that said, a new cable is only around 30 pounds. The UGLY
The biggest weakness on this car is that the wheel arches have corroded quite substantially over the years (see pics)Small corroded hole a size of a penny on the left front wing (covered with duck tape). Previous owner seems to have painted the alloys black (apparently themselves) so the paint is chipping away. The alloys are in decent nick if you wanted to refurbish them, however they do look horrible right now as there is black paint chipping away from them (see pics). There are various scrapes on the bumper,Some rust patches on the bonnetA rust patch above the rear number plateObviously, there are few other very minor age related marks which you would expect from a 17 year old car
If you are looking for an immaculate example of this car then this probably isn’t the one for you. However if you're in a market for a solid work horse, or even a family estate, just for a minor repair this could be one of the best models to go for. Extremely well built, comfortable, practical, SAFE and reliable. Amazing value for money and a very nice car to drive. The ride quality in this car after 17 years still feels significantly superior and better than any Ford or Vauxhall, and nobody can tell me otherwise. For any questions feel free to contact me. Cash/bank transfer on collection please (south London, Sutton SM2).
Please remember that this is ebay and you are bidding to buy. With that said, should you want to arrange a viewing, feel free to contact me on [hidden information] and we can make that happen.
Users with less than 10 feedback or recently registered should make contact before bidding, otherwise eBay will block their bid. Thanks for understanding!
Thank You and Happy Bidding!
