1978 Jaguar XJS 5.3 Litre V12 Convertible
An unusual 4 seat (2+2) Jaguar convertible. One of just 72 worldwide.
Back in the day and before Jaguar built their own convertible, a small number of XJS models were converted by the well known Lynx Company in the UK to make the Lynx Spyder.
Taking 2 years to develop, the Lynx Spyder conversions were very, very expensive, adding a full 50% extra to the cost of a Jaguar XJS.
As a result of the cost, very few Spyder's were built and even fewer survive today. This is number 11.
Today, Lynx Motors are better known for their $300,000+ Jaguar XKSS, C & D Type replica's.
My Lynx Spyder has the Jaguar V12 engine, the GM 400 automatic gearbox, new 16" alloy wheels with new tyres, a new battery, and a new, full exhaust system.
She has been fully re-painted (full 'glass out, guards off' work) which also included stripping the old underside bodysealer and then re-coating with modern stone guard protection. Photos of this are available and are in the history file.
The fully lined, electrically operated mohair hood is in excellent condition with no tears or marks and works perfectly.
She starts on the button, drives really nicely and has no known issues at all.
The engine has been recently serviced with fresh oil & filters etc. and the fuel injection loom has been renewed.
A new power steering rack has been installed by a leading classic Jaguar specialist in Melbourne. They also replaced the gearbox seals and the throttle linkages have been re-bushed in brass (not perishable rubber), the injection system was cleaned, new brake hoses fitted and the brake system flushed with new fluid.
My XJS is regularly driven (on a Club Permit in Victoria) so unfortunately the registration is not transferable.
The air conditioning is currently disconnected - but being a convertible, it hasn't worried me.
The Lynx also comes with a set of the Jaguar 'Star Spoke' alloy wheels & tyres.
Questions and inspections are invited and thanks for looking.
(According to Classic & Sportscar magazine, only 72 Lynx Spyders were ever built).
