Due to recent financial difficulties I have reluctantly decided to sell my baby, an all original, unmodified and unmolested COLLECTOR PLATED 1988 Honda Civic Hatchback DX. I feel that this is a true "survivor car". Took me years to find one in this super clean condition. A rare find indeed. Super low mileage (only 83,855 miles or 134,952 KM). Has Collector Plates. Always regularly serviced at an authorized Honda dealership. All service records (and original owner's manual) are included in the sale. The car was garaged all its life.
The car is virtually rust free, except a little bit on the muffler (the mechanic said nothing to worry about, that it was minor and normal) and a very very minor cosmetic spot near the back wheel on the driver's side (as seen in the video). In the 32 years of ownership only a couple minor accidents and claims (by the previous owner lady driver). Nothing serious. Straight as an arrow. Looks and drives beautifully. A senior Honda dealership mechanic said, at last year's service, that "this 31 year old civic is in better shape than some of the 5 year old cars that we see here".
Again, the car is all original, down to the Pacific Honda mats, paint, cassette radio and seat upholstery. The driver side front seat upholstery (and to a lesser extent the passenger side) has had a couple of minor repairs but the seams are coming apart again. It still looks good but not perfect. The new owner can decide to get it re-upholstered or leave as is. The back seats are perfect, like new.
I bought this car from Pacific Honda in North Vancouver, British Columbia, in 2014. I am the second owner. The first owner was an older lady who traded in the car for another new one. She wanted "power steering" ;) . Anyway, in the 6 years that I have owned this car, I put only 500 KM's on it (300 Miles - no joke), drove it only once in a while just to keep everything in shape. But despite such low usage, I always had it serviced at a Honda dealership, initially twice per year and then was advised that once per year is sufficient. They put me on a "collector car service schedule". I usually have it serviced every August or September. The last time the car was serviced was September of last year. I will leave the next servicing (which is due soon) up to the new owner. And, by the way, for peace of mind, the front and rear tires are 8 mm thread depth, front brakes are 60% and rears are 90%, so you're good to go!
At the risk of repeating myself, let me just say once more that this is NOT the average "run-of-the-mill" car. This is an extremely clean, all original, regularly serviced vehicle with low mileage and in outstanding mechanical and cosmetic condition. I'd call it "premium used". Examples like this one don't come along often. When I drive it around town I have people constantly tell me how amazing the car looks, some want to buy it then and there, even had an offer from a Honda dealership who wanted to display the car at their dealership (not to sell it but rather just to display it to attract more customers to show the longevity of a Honda car). I just hope the car ends up in good hands and will be taken care of as I did.
And, lastly, I hope you understand that due to the still ongoing virus pandemic and the very high risk of virus transmission / infection, I will not be able to offer any test drives or inspections. It's just not worth the additional exposure. I am just very concerned about the current situation and will not subject myself nor my family to potential infection. If you feel turned off by this then please do not bid. I wish to have a successful transaction socially-distanced as much as possible. That is why I try to provide as many details as possible to make your car purchase as safe as humanly possible.
In addition to the 24 photos, I have also uploaded a video of the car to YouTube. It shows the underside and also a test drive. It's about 20 minutes long. I apologize in advance for the non-professional and shaky standard definition video footage but I did my best. It was especially difficult filming the underside of the vehicle, due to its extreme light contrast of dark and bright. But I think it turned out alright. Please copy and paste the following link into your browser to view video:
And please note again that the ODOMETER is in KM and NOT in miles. (The car was, after all, produced at the Honda plant in Alliston, Ontario, Canada). It shows 134,952 KM which translates to 83,855 MILES.
ONE LAST NOTE: Although in superb cosmetic and mechanical condition please be realistic with your expectations as this is a used 32 year old vehicle after all. Do expect normal signs of wear and tear. Please examine all photos and video carefully, and read the entire description for details on condition.
Very rare find. Don't miss out!
- Every 6 - 12 months regular oil changes, comprehensive inspections (and servicing where required), fluid top ups, rotation of tires etc... etc...
- Timing belt was replaced October 15, 2014. I was advised by Honda service (last year in 2019) that since I drive the car very little, that it was garaged most of the time and that our climate on the west coast is very mild, that the timing belt replacement interval, in my case, is 7 years. So October 2021 it would be due for replacement.
- Transmission fluid replaced in 2015
- Replaced distributor and ECU in 2016 (I have kept the used originals, both are in a box included for you)
- Replaced spark plug tube and tower seals in 2016
- Flushed and replaced brake fluid in 2018
