Located at Birtinya on the Sunshine Coast QLD, happy for you to inspect before bidding. Manual 2001 Subaru Forester SF Manual 176k genuine kms with
full service history. Recently converted manual gearbox has died, needs
replacement or repair.
This is a genuine low kilometer SF forester 2.0 auto
converted to manual, and sadly the used gearbox we fitted was a dud and it has died a few
thousand kms later. This car is otherwise an exceptional low km find, with an
excellent body and paint, no dents whatsoever, only typical touched up stone
chips and one small area of very minor surface rust ( repainted ) in rear
drivers wheel arch area. No other rust that I can see anywhere. Comes with full
service history to 162kms in 2017, I bought this March this year at 172kms, and
did a strip to block check of the engine, bores were excellent, and put in a
used manual gearbox, low km ( 10thoukms ) clutch set, and pedal assembly.
Gearbox had problems from the word go, and has finally locked up at 176kms,
during a low speed reverse park outside my house. Car will start and idle fine,
holds temp, no smoke or water vapour out the exhaust, but cannot drive under
its own power, nor can I get it into neutral to push it, the wheels are locked
up. Will need to be towed or trailered.
Has rego and honestly only needs two tyres and the gearbox fixed to pass RWC.
The P plate owner ( stepson ) swapped out the stock Forester wheels in a plan to lower it, but it is still at stock height. Two tyres have had it, these are Imprezza wheels. The gearbox is obviously stuffed, and the battery only holds charge for about a week without driving it, so it’s probably on the way out. Otherwise everything on the car works, glass is fine, even the clock up at the sunglass holder works which is unusual for these.Did the following at 172kms:All filters, air, oil, fuel. Metal head gaskets and full tappet covers seal set. New oil obviously. Near new clutch and flywheel set, new clutch pilot bearing and engine rear main seal. Low km aftermarket radiator, new coolant. Flushed brake fluid. New door speakers, car only has basic aftermarket stereo, but with proper adaptor harness, so easy upgrade there if you wish. New knock sensor. Power steering flush and new boots L & R. Steering wheel cover and gearstick boot. Added a cannon muffler ( used ) - dented underneath. Medium loud, still has central resonator. Sparco pedal covers. The all important red horns.I’m now in a new area on the Sunny Coast with no yard or area to swap out a gearbox anymore, so selling this otherwise great car as is. I’ve sunk about $3500 into this car as well as a lot of hours, but will sell it for a song given the gearbox issue. Can remove the driveshaft to allow rear diff to coast for towing.
