I am selling my 2001 BMW Z3 2.5 Roadster. I am the second owner and I have owned this car for approximately nine years. I did all oil changes correctly at the right times in this time, and prior to that I am sure the previous owners did as well. It is a great driver car, in excellent shape for a car that's almost twenty years old. In 2017 it received many services, and just a few weeks ago we had a full brake inspection and replacement of a questionable caliper. I will outline all of the service work in detail below.
I really love the car, but I don't get to drive it much anymore because it's a two seater and I now have two kids under the age of 5. I wanted to keep this car forever, but I won't be able to use it properly for too many years in the future, and it's not good to let cars sit unused. I'd like to sell it off to somebody who will love it. For what it's worth, my driving habits are extremely reserved. I never drove this car aggressively. I wanted to keep it as nice as I could for as long as I could. Of course I occasionally drove spiritedly, as you should with a manual sports car, but I'm not one to do burnouts or pull G's on a corner. The previous owners were in their 50s, a couple who drove the car in the summer only and who sold it to me so that they could buy an old Rover to drive on the beach. I don't think they drove aggressively either.
Here are some more solid details about the car. Please contact me with any questions you may have regarding the car. I will happily answer all questions.
116,000 miles. Car starts perfectly every time with no engine faults and no problems of any kind. Accelerates great, handles beautifully, stops excellently. Manual transmission shifts beautifully, clutch is excellent, throttle is responsive, engine and exhaust sound beautiful. The car is just a great driver.
Electrical systems have no issues. The power windows, locks, cruise control, gauges, etc., all work perfectly. The power convertible soft top seals securely and opens and closes electronically in a fluid, steady motion. The car also has the optional Hard Top Mounting Kit installed, however there is currently no hard top accompanying the car. I do not have a hard top for it, but the buyer could buy one separately on the used market if desired, and install it without the need to install the car's hard top receiving kit.
In 2017, I had a lot of work performed on the car. These included - New brake calipers, rotors, pads, on front wheels, as well as new pads and rotors on the rear wheels. Front ball joint was replaced. Shift shaft seal was replaced.Primary drive belt replaced.Air conditioning drive belt replaced.Steering Universal Joint replaced.Steering shaft replaced.Spark Plugs, Air filter replaced.Installation of 18" wheels from a newer BMW (these filled the wheel wells better than the originals, and fit perfectly with no issues). New tires were installed at the same time and these are still on the car today.
Back in (about) 2014, the car was parked in a parking lot and the nose was backed into by an SUV. The car suffered cosmetic damage only, and the headlight, front bumper and all clips and attachments, as well as the hood, were replaced and painted by BMW's body shop. I did not have this work done at any old body shop, but through BMW. The repair is excellent and looks great. There are a few generally tiny dings and rockmarks from highway driving here and there on the paint as on any used car. About one year later, the car was again parked in a parking lot and a Toyota backed into the rear panel just above the right wheel. I once again had all of the repair work done in the same way. All of this work was done on the other drivers' insurance's dime - so no expense was spared.
A few weeks ago we also had one rear caliper, pads, sensors, and rotor replaced, as the caliper had begun sticking. And at that time we also installed a brand new battery.
During the shop inspection approximately three weeks ago, the shop informed me that the motor, transmission, and drivetrain are in excellent condition and told me that it's a really strong car. No oil leaks were found. It was suggested that being that the car is 20 years old, that we should think about having the power steering fluid lines and brake lines replaced with new. The shop quoted $500 and said it can wait.
The rubber grommet that surrounds the radio antenna on the back of the car has cracked and should be replaced. Last I looked, this part cost about $20 but I'm not sure about installation. I can't imagine it's difficult, but it's been on the back-burner for me and hasn't been done.
The interior is in great shape. The shift boot and e-brake boot were replaced with custom M color stitched black leather from Italy. And the shift knob and e-brake lever handle were replaced with beautiful stainless steel options.
Leather seats are in excellent condition with no rips or tears or wear. Dashboard is similarly excellent, as are the gauges and all plastic, glass. Windshield was replaced five years ago and has no chips or pitting or sand damage. Carpet is great shape, and a thorough vacuuming would make it excellent. There's no damaged plastic or broken pieces in the interior. All controls work as they should.
The exhaust is in greta condition. So is the trunk and engine compartment. The BMW tool kit is included. The underside of the car does show some rust, but it not too bad according to my eye and the shop inspection from a couple of weeks ago. There's also a little bit of rust in the wheel well at ground level, and there's a bit of bubbly paint around the trunk release button. It is not collector condition of course, but just a great classic driver car!
