1978 HZ Holden. Originally an Adelaide car. I bought it
directly from Chris at CK Automotive in Preston just last year. Chris only sold
it to finance buying another car. If you don’t know CK Automotive then look him
up as he is very well known and regarded in the muscle car and drag car scene –
top bloke too.
The car was a full ground up rebuild around 10 years ago
Chris said and going by the folder of receipts that came with the car it looks
like everything was done during 2012 and 2013.
I bought the car in April 2020 – drove it around as it was
for a couple months and then made some changes and improvements. All work was been
done by Chris Dalton at Dalton Automotive in South Geelong – Chris has worked
on my past 4 cars including one of which one was in Street Machine 2017 and like
Chris from CK Automotive he is very well know in the muscle car and drag car
scene and a ripper bloke – google or Youtube them and you will see what I mean
re their drag videos and shop recommendations.
Since I’ve owned the car the following has been done :
Holley Sniper EFI – fully programmable and dialled in by
Chris Dalton. Car has also had dyno time with him as well to get optimal
New high flow fuel pump
New throttle cable, twin return springs and brackets
New front brake pads and discs
New 3.7 diff centre
New 275 wide Mickey Thompson ET Street SS rear tyres
New spark plugs
New to car but used 7 inch wide front Centreline Autodrags
with new tyres ( original ones were way too thin – drives much better now )
Full closed door respray including inside of boot lid and
underside of bonnet. Didn’t do the door sills, jambs and engine bay as they
were all perfect.
New twin 3 inch exhaust system with twin hotdogs at rear and
remote controlled exhaust cutouts which when open sounds crazy tough ( check carsales.com.au for more pics and walk around video )
The below was all done when the frame off resto was done :
434 small block Chev ( 400 cubes stroked to 436 ci. to be
exact ) which was bathed, crack tested, honed resized and lined etc. – all
shown in receipts
MSD 6AL ignition and leads
Victor Senior intake manifold
AFR Heads – specs in folder
Packed with all the good stuff – race spec Crane Cam, Lunati,
Mahle, Cloyes, ARP, K and N, Crane stud girdles, headers ceramic coated etc.
etc. ( folder of receipts will come with car )
Having had big HP small block, big block and blown big block
motors built before, I would say this would easily be a 30 grand motor. The
motor has loads of torque and power, doesn’t heat up and can cruise at low
speeds – a very good all round package.
Fully built Turbo 350, manual valve body B and M Pro Ratchet shifter and even has a line
lock if you want to warm up the rears before drag racing it
9 inch diff with billet axles, big driveshaft, unis etc.
Aeroflow fuel cell with splashbowl ( this was installed by
Chris at CK Automotive last year )
Twin thermo fans, kill switches, separate fan and ignition
Knock off Centreline Autodrag front wheels with genuine
Centreline Autodrag rear wheels, new tyres all round
Fibreglass bonnet with 4 inch reverse cowl
GTS dash, GTS steering wheel, GTS guards
Interior was fully retrimmed, new carpet etc when the frame
off resto was done – all in excellent condition
All Autometer gauges, headlights, high beams, brake lights
etc work perfectly
I could keep going on listing absolutely everything for this
car but it’ll take too long and you should get the idea from the above.
This HZ is in excellent condition overall and must have been
very well looked after by whoever had the original frame off resto done. All
top quality parts were used and I have only added to that with the Holley
Sniper for example which makes it completely streetable now. It stays cool in
traffic as the motor hasn’t been maxed out and is low compression. If you
wanted even more horsepower you could up the compression a bit and get 700 HP
no problems as the motor, trans and diff would handle that easily. As it is it
has big power, the torque is awesome at any speed, still stays cool and you can
do rolling burnouts at 100 k’s an hour no problem!
Very well built car in excellent condition. Paint and body
are excellent - very straight and very good gaps all round and as above just
been close door resprayed a couple months ago. This is not just another LS swapped quickly painted street car - this is a real old school type muscle car in excellent condition that actually works and is completely drivable anywhere.
No tyre kickers please – if you don’t have the funds
available please don’t waste either of our time.

Car is located in Moriac Victoria 3240, garaged at all times
and watched with security cameras. Viewing of the car will be at my discretion,

looks at it.

Non transferable club reg so you will need get own
roadworthy. Perfect club plate car – no issues.
