Freshly restored (just finished) LHD 1966 Ford Mustang Fastback 2+2, imported about 2 years ago. (I have all the import papers).
New: - Paint- 392ci Ford racing engine- Wiring, gauges and electrics- Full Interior- Wheels + tyres- Suspension- pretty much everything... Full details below.
Was a Museum car from the Baltria Vintage Auto Gallery in the US. Before going on display, they gave her new paint & fitted a 392 cubic inch stroker engine – producing about 500hp I'm told.Was in great condition, but I wanted a colour change so I inadvertently started a full re-build.
THE EXTERIOR:The car was stripped, primed, hi-filled then painted 3 coats black. Most chrome has been polished/replaced (including new door handles, door locks). New tail light lenses & halogen headlights. Under the car, enamel paint & stone-guard. All new weather seal rubbers throughout the car. Billet aluminium SHELBY Super Snake fuel filler cap. New US Mags Rambler diamond cut textured wheels, staggered Front: 17x7 & Rear: 17x8. Wrapped in super sticky (& expensive) BF Goodrich G-Force Sport COMP-2 tyres. Front: 225/45/17 Rear: 245/45/17.She looks amazing, photos don't do it justice.
THE INTERIOR:New wiring harness, every wire, fuse & relay in the car was replaced & about 99% of the switches. New RETROSOUND head unit – looks like a classic head unit but packed with all modern stuff like USB/iPhone input, Bluetooth etc. New Sony speakers front and rear.The car has been lined with insulation, plus Dynamat, then underlay and fresh carpets installed. All new custom floor mats to keep the fresh carpet safe. Complete new interior: dash top, door cards, headlining, rear seat, Recaro branded bucket seats in the front. New original-style seatbelts fitted, along with a matching shifter boot & Hurst shifter.The dash features new alloy trim pieces, including the glove box door & dash fascia. It has a new set of 6 gauges (Tacho, Speedo, Fuel, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Battery) with new sending units. New billet hand brake, new ignition barrel & lock, sports pedals, plus a super slick new Corsa steering wheel.The interior looks & feels great. For Gone in 60 Seconds fans, she has an ELEANOR feel to the cabin.
UNDER THE BONNET & CAR:Turn the key & she comes to life first go.4 speed gearbox & heavy-duty clutch married to the 392 Ford Racing stroker engine barely has any miles on her since new, but still got some attention & cleaned up. SVO performance heads, 650 Double pumper Holley Carburettor, SHELBY valve covers, MSD Electric Ignition system, Edelbrock intake. Marsh pulley system & upgraded water pump, ceramic coated polished performance headers.
Braided fuel lines, new electric pump & filter & fuel pressure gauge. New battery & new aluminium radiator with electric fan fitted, keeping her super cool.The engine bay has new nuts, bolts & screws with a full “SHELBY Under-hood detailing kit” by Scott Drake.New shock tower brackets, export (strut) brace & Monte Carlo bar.The brakes have been replaced with a Wilwood 4 wheel disc brake setup, with additional Wilwood handbrake calipers.The suspension has been worked, receiving 4 new shocks, new leaf spring, new bushes etc. and lowered 1 inch. She sits like a dream. New top of the line VintageAir Air-conditioning system installed. Blows icy cold.
I have photos of the re-build & a lot of receipts. Why am I selling it? I keep asking myself that. I have a few other cars, nowhere to store it & even less time to drive. I put her on historical club registration which is not transferable, but I can tell you how to get it easily - plus club rego and insurance is super cheap. Car will come with a blue slip if needed. This is pretty much a new car, but a whole lot more satisfying. Will there still be things to do to it, probably – it’s a classic car & it’s all a part of the fun.
