1946 Dodge pickup. 350 Chev with Turbo 350 auto. Chopped and
All original steel and all original chassis.
Rare car even in the states – can’t see any others for sale
in Australia that are rodded like this one.
Fully engineered on M Plates and club registered with ASRF.
Engineers reports, import approval etc. all included in sale.
Imported this car into Australia from New Jersey in the U.S.
about 18 months ago. It is my first old school hot rod and third American
import ( one of which was in Street Machine 2016 ) after a number of Aussie
Shortly after arrival the car was sent to Hodgys Rods and
Customs in Ballarat and was fully stripped down to the chassis. Still had the
original timber floor which was replaced with steel, a new fire wall made up
and installed and the chassis was worked on. The chassis was C notched in the
states so Hodgy reflowed the chassis to work instead of being notched and also
straightened and levelled it at the same time. Ended up over 12 and half grands
worth to ensure the engineer was happy with it.
I have a number of photos that Hodgy sent through whilst
these works were being done if required.
Car was originally yellow with flames but was painted satin
black by Jarrod at Hopkins Panels in Geelong – nice job but not perfect which
is what I wanted – not a full rat rod but not a shiny trailer queen either. Body
is really quite straight for original panels that are nearly 75 years old. I have
all the original sales photos and videos of when the car was yellow too if
anyone wants to see them.
Havn’t done interior yet but plan was to wrap the dash
black, fit door rubbers, a bench seat and tidy up the rest. I still have the
sections of interior that were removed for the Aus compliant seat belts etc. but
as is it’s completely serviceable and everything works fine.
The car drives great – motor is a 350 Chev crate motor which
has really good compression, auto choke, starts up and idles well and sits in a
front clip from a Camaro. It was just dyno tuned by Chris at Dalton Automotive
Sth Geelong who did and/or organised all the work on the car ( and my other past
American cars ) and the pickup can get up and move along surprisingly well.
Drives well at any speed - cruising at 100 is no problem and still plenty of go
when on the highway – have a short video from inside cabin whilst driving if anyone
wants to see.
Chris also put new disc brake front end on the car, new
brake lines and fully went through the rear drums – car stops great. New thick
black marine ply with chrome strips in the tray bed keeps with the black and
chrome style of the car and genuine 1941 ammo box for tools storage also (
these pickups were built exactly the same from 1941 to 1947 so it fits the
timeline ). I’m sure Chris, like Hodgy who did the chassis work, would be happy
to talk to any prospective buyer if needed.
Car was fully rewired by Injection Connection in Geelong so
all gauges, lights etc. work perfectly. New LED headlights and rear tail
lights, power steering that works great, just regassed and serviced aftermarket
AC unit ( needs vents plumbed to work properly when interior is done ), good heater
and also comes with CD player all hooked up and working ( just need speakers ).
Brand new Weld Prostars front and rear with Nankang fronts
and big Mickey Thompson rears . New Grant steering wheel, all new glass and
seat belts for compliance, new reversing camera etc. New 3 inch twin exhaust
dumped at diff with electric cutouts operated by key ring control to open up
and get it sounding like a cool old truck.
It’s a very cool and tough looking old school pick up that
turns heads everywhere. Most people havn’t seen one before and especially not
one done like this that’s engineered on it’s original chassis and all original
steel. There’s probably a few things I’ve forgotten to mention but you should
get the idea.
Anyone who has built cars and rods should know how much time
and money goes into getting them fully engineered – especially something as heavily
modified with the chop, channel, Chev running gear etc. like this truck. Not to
mention just getting the cars over from the US which won’t be getting cheaper
anytime too. I wouldn’t think there’s too many original chassis, original non
rusted out steel nearly 75 year old hotrods out there!
Reason for sale is I want to build or buy another big
powered muscle car again. If I could afford to keep this as my cruiser and have
a high hp muscle car I definitely would but can’t so need the money from the
rod as I want to build/buy an 800 plus hp beast again.
Viewing by appointment – pls call or contact through website

any serious buyer want to see them.

Can help with transport if needed.
Money must be either cleared into my bank account or in my
hand before car leaves my possession.
No Poopal unless buyer pays fees. CASH sale preferred.
Please note I am not desperate to sell so won’t entertain
ridiculous low ball offers. I will though consider Aussie or US muscle from mid
50’s to early 80’s.
